LOVE LETTERS
Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Love Letters is a moving portrayal of a relationship that grows and deepens through the correspondence of Andrew Makepeace Ladd 3d (Dick Pack) and Melissa Gardner (Liz Roe). Over a period of 50 years, the author transports them from second grade through the trials of adulthood, marriage, divorce and middle age. The most poignant element of Gurney's piece is the story between the lines, the words Andy and especially Melissa cannot bring themselves to write.
Though the play is in the form of a staged reading, critics have consistently proclaimed that something dramatic occurs as the two characters connect in a way they might not in a fully staged production, and as the audience’s imagination is added to the mix. As opposites, each character provides the other with what is needed. The irony is that they do not understand this until late in life. These are, in fact, star-crossed love letters.
One reviewer has said, Love Letters is not only about acting. It's also about listening... but in a different way.”
Our stars, Liz Roe and Dick Pack, are experienced and accomplished actors who are well known locally for their work at the Milton Theatre, Possum Point Players and Clear Space Productions.
The Saturday, June 5th performance begins at 8 pm. The Sunday, June 6th matinee at 2 p.m. The box office will open 45 minutes prior to show time.
