IRON JAWED ANGELS - Dessert and a Movie
Sponsored by the League of Women Voters

Thursday, August 26, 2010 - Dessert at 6:30 p.m. and Movie at 7:00 p.m.

IRON JAWED ANGELS is an inspiring and contemporary film that tells the story of a small group of suffragists who fought for women’s right to vote. The League of Women Voters of Sussex County is marking Women's Equality Day by using IRON JAWED ANGELS to educate people on the history of women’s suffrage and encourage them to get involved in shaping their democracy.

The film was directed by Katja von Garnier and stars Hilary Swank (BOYS DON'T CRY) as Alice Paul, a fiery female who is determined to see the day when women are granted the right to vote. Of course, her bold efforts place her in a dangerous position, but Paul's determination eventually helped to change the tide of history forever. Co-starring Angelica Huston, Frances O'Connor, Julia Ormond, and Molly Parker, IRON JAWED ANGELS is an engaging tribute to an oft-forgotten moment in American history. Not rated.

“Studies show that when people realize that gaining the right to vote was a struggle, they are more likely to exercise that right,” stated Esther Shelton, President of the League of Women Voters of Sussex County. “People need to understand the sacrifices made to obtain the right to vote. Iron Jawed Angles shows that individuals can make a difference and their voices and votes can shape the direction of our country and our community.”
