12th Annual Broadkill River Canoe AND Kayak Race 2011 - RESCHEDULED
Saturday, October 8 , 2011 - Registration at 8:30 a.m.
Race begins at 10:00 a.m. from Oyster Rocks Rd.

The 12th Annual Canoe and Kayak Race, benefitting the Milton Theatre, has been rescheduled for October 8th! The Milton Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled its "Bargains on the Broadkill" and "Great Duck Race" for the same date. The locations, time, sponsors, contact information and race details remain the same.

Anyone already registered for the event who cannot participate on October 8 will receive a refund. Please send an e-mail to mdc110@verizon.net with your request including your mailing address. Requests will be processed as quickly as possible.

The historic Milton Theatre brings the drama outdoors at the "wild & wet" 12th Annual Canoe and Kayak Race to support the future of the theatre. This popular race invites both pros and amateurs to paddle 10 miles on the beautiful, unspoiled Broadkill River for the greater glory of personal accomplishment and maybe win an award, too.

This race is held in partnership with "Bargains on the Broadkill," the annual Chamber of Commerce flea market and collectable show in Milton's Memorial Park behind the library. Milton's beautifully renovated town park will be festive with great food vendors, funnel cakes, lemonade, and the Milton Express miniature train from the Milton Lions Club will offer rides. The many bargains available will keep friends and families busy until all the paddlers reach the finish line.

Update from the Milton Theatre Board
Effective April 13, 2011

Planned in the last update....

In our last update, we reported that we were working on three priorities: Gathering Community Input in order to plan and improve our programming and services; developing and refining a Business Plan with supporting financials; and Board Development.

Progress to Plan....

Community Input: We have met with dozens of amazing people, from as many demographics as we could, in a series of brainstorming and discussion sessions. And we're not done yet. We found a lot of genuine support for what we've offerred in the past and so many creative ideas for the future as well as some constructive suggestions for change. A team is being put together to address those ideas and get them into the plans.

Business Plan: The business plan is done based on where we are today. Of course, this plan is going to be updated when we know our new "start of business date", and as as we make further progress on programming and board development.

Board development: The Board of Directors of the Milton Theatre is proud to share with you its efforts to strengthen the infrastructure of the theatre organization as it prepares to move forward. First of all, the Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Donald Shandler to the position of Senior Consultant, Organizational Development. In addition, the Board proudly announces three new board members - Marie Mayor, Josh Lynch and Mark Carter.

THE SAVE THE MILTON THEATRE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

The office for the Milton Development Corporation and the Milton Theatre is now located at 107 Union St., Milton, DE 19968. The telephone number is still 302-684-3400, and the e-mail address is still mdc110@verizon.net.

The historic Milton Theatre building has been vacated pending the sale of the building. The Milton Development Corporation is continuing the SAVE THE MILTON THEATRE campaign with the expectation of raising enough money to purchase the Milton Theatre outright from the mortgage lender who purchased it at the sheriff's sale.

This past year has proved that the Milton Theatre can sustain itself fiscally without a mortgage note. Important changes have been put in place since August 2009 that have made the theatre successful. Through improved fiscal planning and tracking, expanded programming including live plays, concerts, movies, special events, summer camp programs, and community programming, we have increased our base of patrons and supporters and proved that the Milton Theatre can be financially viable.

The SAVE THE MILTON THEATRE campaign continues until we are able to purchase the theatre. The response from supporters has been tremendous and generous. More pledges are needed for success.

Your contribution will help us secure the theatre's future. Make a pledge today!
